He sets off with purposeful steps. His plan is to search methodically and thoroughly, poking his head into each deserted domicile one by one. Unbeknownst to her, Emet-Selch likewise thinks that there are worse people who could have chosen to tag along with him in this endeavour, unasked. She doesn't ask useless questions or fill the quiet with inane chatter. Maybe that's why he makes an effort to moderate his tone as he replies.

(His voice is still terse though.)

"That would depend on the benevolence of these so-called gods, now wouldn't it?" He picks his way through the abandoned toys on the floor of the first home they come across. This must have been a family's home once. The pot on the stove is crusted with some sort of long-evaporated liquid. "I don't see why they have to wait to begin with unless they need time to discuss a fitting punishment for our crimes."
